Random Things Again

  • Squirmy’s on the two foot move, and he’s getting fast.  Along with his ability to get around upright has come the ability to carry things in his hands while moving.  He loves to deposit small objects wherever he’s been.  He has also gained an ability to climb up on things that he has been constantly using to get all sorts of places I’d rather he not be.  Furthermore, he has also learned to throw a temper tantrum.
  • A few weeks ago one of my friends from church gave me a heads up that several of the orchards and farms in Bayfield starting doing fruit CSA shares this year, and I was thrilled to be able to purchase a CSA share of blueberries, which arrived last Wednesday.  My husband thought I was seriously insane for purchasing 20 pounds of blueberries.  I was so excited because I have been wanting to go and pick blueberries for a few years now, but I have never managed to drag my whole crew to a place that has blueberry picking.  These blueberries came already picked, and they were delivered to Superior, so I didn’t even have to drive all the way to Bayfield to get them, which makes my life EASY.  When the blueberries arrived, I was ten times happier with the experience than I had planned on being, because I am telling you, those blueberries are truly amazing!  They taste NOTHING like grocery store blueberries.  They have zip!  Zest!  Flavor that tingles your tongue!  The kidlets and I have been raving about them all week.  I am definitely purchasing a blueberry CSA share next year, and probably a strawberry share from Bayfield too, since a couple of yeas ago we didn’t have a very good experience picking strawberries at the nearest strawberry farm.  The owner of that place was NOT a kid-friendly person.  We haven’t gotten the courage to go back to that place, and I really enjoy a true, delicious strawberry (which also doesn’t taste anything like a grocery store strawberry).
  • I am in the planning stages of writing curricula for preschool music classes at the assisted living places this fall!  I love planning everything out.  It’s like a giant puzzle to solve.  I am especially excited about the very real prospect of teaching an early childhood music class focusing on kids with special needs this year too!  The church has agreed to let me borrow a room to teach in one morning each week, and now I just need to confirm some dates with them and start looking for families who might want to come.  I’ve been wanting to work on this project for a very long time, and I’m thrilled things are finally falling into place.
  • The weather is amazing!  I love it.  We aren’t loving the hordes of mosquitos that are around this year, though.  I’m not sure why there are SO many!
  • The green vine on the outside of our house has grown by leaps and bounds this summer, and I love that thing!  I have always wanted to live in a house covered by a vine, and I’m so excited this house has one.  It had been cut down when we bought the house, so we didn’t know there was a vine for more than a year.  Now it is covering a whole front corner and spreading fast!  It covers the windows on my bedroom like a fluttering green curtain.
  • My husband has been waiting to buy a stand up paddleboard/surf board for years, and he finally just did it.  He’s smitten.  So are the kidlets.
  • Last Thursday I went shopping all by myself for several hours to buy things to put into backpacks that our church collects to help the transition for local foster kids.  It’s one of our favorite giving projects around this house, but I have learned from experience that the kidlets love packing the stuff, but HATE shopping for it.  This year I did the shopping by myself, which went so much more smoothly.  As it was, it still took a very, very long time to find everything to go into the backpacks at the store even without any kidlets tagging along.  We try to do a backpack for a child that is the same age as each of our kids, which just means a lot of thinking things through in the store to make sure you have the right stuff for each backpack.  The kidlets loved packing everything up and carrying it to church last weekend.  It was a great project, and fun to buy all sorts of fun stuff that I wouldn’t ordinarily buy my own kids.  It was kind of like Christmas, except even better because we didn’t have to keep any of the stuff!

Praise the Lord. I been praying all summer that you would find a place to have your special needs class. God is so good. I will keep praying as you plan and get started. Love you.
